4/27 Blog Assignment -- SLO Post Test
4/27 Blog Assignment — SLO Post Test
I have gained many tasks in the field of athletic training throughout my mentorship. For starters, I have learned how to properly wrap an ankle and a wrist. By learning this skill, I can not only use it in college training but on anyone that needs that done to them. Not only have a gained useful skills for my college internships, I have gained experience in having to deal with other “co-workers” or interns on the job. This year, there were multiple interns from different colleges having to earn their hours for their athletic training program. I really liked learning from them and learning to get to along with them. All of the interns were very kind and were in the same position as I was.
The actions I took to gain more from my experience is that I tried to ask many questions to further my understanding of a certain action or piece of information being told. I also tried to keep mental notes during my time on site, then I would go home and try to write everything down I learned that day or week. By doing this, I have tried to keep a running list of everything that I have learned so that I can go into college knowing more than I should. My mentorship has prepared me for my future by giving me experience for my college internships. In the field of athletic training junior and senior year, you go on-site to a high school or college and work with their trainer. By doing this mentorship, I have learned how it is to be on an official internship.
By participating in my mentorship, I have learned that athletic trainers have to be on alert all the time during a game. They have to be quick to respond to an injury, which was surprising to me in some ways. Also, I have learned that athletic trainers have crazy schedules. They sometimes have to stay late into the evening if a game or practice to running late. They have to juggle their schedules in order to have time with their family if possible. My advice for future HMP members is to enjoy this time you have with your mentor. It seems like a long time you have but it goes by so fast. Also, take in as much as your can. That information could help you pass a test in high school or in college.

March Extra Period Assignment
My mentorship is with Atlanta Rehabilitation & Performance Center. Recently, I have taken a look on their company's website. In my opinion, their homepage as too many tabs to click on. They need to have actual visual shots of/from their clinic(s) of their therapists in action. Next, there should be a deeper explanation of each of their services. They focus mainly on Physical Therapy when they also offer Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Industrial Rehabilitation, etc. They need to spread out the information to all services. Under the About Us section, there needs to be a place where it shows what previous patients have said about their experience with Atlanta Rehab. That will decide if someone would like to attend their facility or not. Lastly, there needs to be a tab where viewers of the website can see who all works for Atlanta Rehab. On other websites I have seen, they list all of their certified PT's, AT's, Orthopedic surgeons, etc. That also will give future patients an idea of who they will possibly be seeing.

3/16 Assignment
This video about public speaking is going to help me, in a way, for my presentation because it stated factual information that will go into good use. First, I will prepare for my presentation by knowing my topic/essential question backwards and forwards. Then, I will know exactly how I am going to present it. In this regard, I will create a powerpoint or a pamphlet to show my information. Second, my posture and physicality will show a lot to my audience. If I am slouched and not in a good mood, the audience will not be into my presentation and they will think what is wrong with her. I want to make a good impression to my audience and give them my information in a spirited, clear matter.
Lastly, in order for my audience to enjoy my presentation, I need to pander to them. This includes not being so serious, not reading my entire presentation off of my notecards, and/or even throw in a joke to lighten the mood. These things will make me be more natural to the audience and they will enjoy the information more. The "P-Method" will definitely go into effect when I am preparing for my presentation and during it as well.

3/2 Assignment
1. Career Path: If I wanted to follow the career path of an athletic trainer, I would have to attend college for four years and earn my Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. After college, I would then have to job search for an athletic training position with a physical therapy clinic or a sports medicine clinic.
2. Tasks: The tasks that I enjoy at my mentorship site would have to include taping (ankles, wrists, etc.) and creating new relationships with patients when they are in therapy. The task I that is less attractive to me is the moments when you are waiting for a patient to arrive or when you are waiting for something to happen in a practice or game. When you are waiting, there is nothing much you can do except sit around and chat with those around you. It would be nice to have something to do sometimes. :)

2/2 Assignment
This week for my final project, I have gathered more research and information for my powerpoint and brochure. I want to have all of my main information to be on a powerpoint and I want a brief summary of my information in a brochure to hand out to my select audience. By having a brochure, my audience can see a brief summary of what I will be speaking about in my presentation. I want my audience to be engaged in both formats. I will be starting my powerpoint in the next week or so, but for now, I am still gathering important research.

Reflection and Response to 1/12 Assignment/Interview
This is a reflection and response to my interview with physical therapist, Nicole Burkett:
After interviewing Mrs. Nicole, I learned so much information for my Spring project. The questions I had asked her were not only for the assignment sake but for my own knowledge. I wanted to learn more about physical therapy and absorb information from someone who experiences it everyday. Mrs. Nicole's answers to my questions were definitely the answers I wanted to hear. By having the knowledge of her being a physical therapist for some number of years, I knew I could ask her anything about physical therapy. By learning about schooling to why she enjoys the career, it helped me gain more excitement for the career in my future. This interview definitely opened my scope of what physical therapy is and how people take on this career everyday.
